Five students of Ahantaman Senior High School (SHS) in the Sekondi Takoradi Metropolis, Western Region, lost all their belongings in a dormitory fire on Wednesday, July 18, 2024.
Charles Mintaba, Chairman of the Parents Teachers Association (PTA), confirmed the incident to Nhyiraba Paa Kwesi Simpson, host of Connect FM’s Omanbapa Morning Show. Mintaba stated that the fire broke out around 7:30 am, while the students were in class.
"We suspect an electrical fault caused the fire. Trunks, beds, bed sheets, provisions, books, and other belongings, amounting to thousands of Ghana Cedis, were completely burnt," he said.
Fire officers from the Western Region Fire Command quickly rushed to the scene to extinguish the fire.
While the exact cause of the blaze has yet to be determined, an electrical fault is suspected. "We are calling on parents, organizations, philanthropists, and other individuals to aid the school,
Mintaba appealed. "These students have lost everything, and given the current economic situation, it will be difficult for their parents to replace the burnt items immediately. We must all come together to assist. We are pleading for everyone to lend a helping hand.
